Stairs and Hallway Flooring

Your hallway is the one of the most important areas in your home. It creates the first room anyone sees, so it has the most affect on the first impression of your home, (important if you are trying to rent or sell the property) and in terms of everyday living it takes the most wear and tear. So choose a flooring that can be cleaned easily and does not show the dirt. You should always invest in a good door mat to protect your flooring from damp and dirt. The tiny particles of grit that people bring in from outside will scratch floors and damage carpet fibres.  For hallways carpets, vinyl, natural flooring, engineered wood and wood laminates are good choices.

Carpets need to be very hard wearing. Carpets with short dense piles are best and we also recommend that you include underlay in your hall, stairs and landing. Underlay extends the life of the flooring. Striped carpets are currently popular and make a good choice for hall, stairs and landings.

Natural flooring such as coir and seagrass are very tough and make a good choice for hallways, but we would always recommend you ensure that this product has some stain protection because of the amount of traffic the hallway gets. We also supply and fit Natural Flooring stair runners from Alternative Flooring. Seagrass should not be fitted on stairs as it is too slippery.

Wood and wood laminates are good for hallways too. Another alternative for a hallway is linoleum or designer vinyl tiles like Karndean. With the use of borders or designs these can make a very attractive and practical entrance to your home.
