Vinyl Flooring

Smooth flooring includes, vinyl and linoleum. This is good for kitchens, bathrooms, playrooms, hallways and children’s bedrooms. It is comfortable to walk on and safe for children to play on.

Things to look for in Vinyl Flooring

  • Smooth flooring must have dry flat sub-floor. Any raised or pitted areas in the floor will cause vinyl or linoleum to wear.
  • Look for high quality vinyls with an additional clear ‘wear layer’ on the surface which intensifies the colour and pattern as well as making it more hard wearing.
  • It lasts between 5-10 years and is a good mid range price choice for family homes.

Caring for Vinyls

This type of flooring is simple to maintain. It just needs sweeping with a soft brush then cleaning with a solution of warm water and a few drops of washing up liquid. You should never use abrasive cleaners or products which claim to require no rinsing as these products can cause permanent damage!

Installation

Able DIY’ers could lay sheet vinyl or vinyl tiles in a small area (less than 5m2). But it is worth having large areas or complex patterns fitted professionally. Linoleum must be fitted professionally.
